Approach

A river basin simulation model is the main tool of the analysis to respond to demands of irrigation, hydropower and environmental flow. The main research task will be carried out jointly by researchers from both HRC-Sudan and EiWR-AAU. Staff of IHE – Delft will provide guidance and facilitation at key steps of project implementation.
One of the most commonly used model software in the basin will be selected, e.g., Mike Basin, WEAP, RIBASIM, River Ware, HEC-ReSim, etc.

The research activities have been designed to be implemented in 3 sequential phases:

The research project will include 3 scientific meetings to follow the project progress:

  • Inception meeting at the start of the project, to design the project in details and agree on which model software to use (will be organized in Sudan during 22nd and 23rd of May 2017).

  • Intermediate meeting: After one year from the start of the project, when it is expected that the two sub-models (T-A Ethiopia part), and (T-A Sudan part) will be completed. Models and data will be exchanged in this meeting to start building the model for the whole T-A.

  • Final project meetings where all project outputs will be presented and discussed, in particular the model scenario analysis.
