The Inception Workshop for the second phase of Tekeze- Atbara Project entitled “The Tekeze-Atbara sub-basin: From river basin simulations towards cooperative approaches for transboundary water management” has been successfully held on Monday 24th August 2020 as an online webinar to cope with COVID-19 implications and restrictions.
After successful implementation of phase-1 of the project on modelling of the T-A reservoirs system, the same organizations; HRC-Sudan, EiWR-AAU and IHE Delft are now working on a follow up research (phase II) which focuses on designing options for institutional infrastructures that could lead to a more cooperative operation of the reservoir system in the T-A sub-basin. This phase of the project has been officially launched in April 2019 and extends up to June 2021. This inception workshop was planned to be held physically in Addis Ababa in June 2019. However, due to many issues including COVID-19 pandemic, the workshop was postponed several times an eventually converted to an online webinar.
The objective of the workshop is to engage relevant stakeholders and policy makers in the project activities right from the start, enhance the knowledge capacity of the participants on relevant topics, strengthen the working relationships among the project team and monitor the project progress while paving the way forward.

The workshop was virtually attended by around 20 participants including the project team, resource persons and many stakeholders from the region including the Executive Director of the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI); Prof. Seifeldin Abdalla, the Director General of the Basin Development Authority/MoWIE-Ethiopia; Dr.Adanech Yared, the Chairman of the Water Resources Technical Organ/MoIWR-Sudan; Dr. Saleh Hamad and the Regional Dam Safety Coordinator at the NBI Eastern Nile Technical Regional Office (ENTRO); Dr.Micheal Abebe.
